Differentiating bulk nanobubbles from nanodroplets and nanoparticles

چکیده

History has shown that it is not as easy one might think to differentiate between bulk nanobubbles and nanodroplets or nanoparticles. It generally detect colloids (i.e. something looks different, e.g. scatters light differently than its surrounding solvent), but less determine the nature of these colloids. This led misinterpretations in literature, where nanoparticles have mistakenly been assumed be nanobubbles. In this paper, we review a multitude experimental methods approaches prove existence We conclude combinations optical detection with physical perturbations such pressure ultrasound, phase-sensitive holographic are most promising convenient approaches.

Removal of nanoparticles from plain and patterned surfaces using nanobubbles.

It is the aim of this paper to quantitatively characterize the capability of surface nanobubbles for surface cleaning, i.e., removal of nanodimensioned polystyrene particles from the surface. We adopt two types of substrates: plain and nanopatterned (trench/ridge) silicon wafer. The method used to generate nanobubbles on the surfaces is the so-called alcohol-water exchange process (use water to...

Homogeneous bulk, surface, and edge nucleation in crystalline nanodroplets.

The birth of a crystal is initiated by a nucleus from which the crystal grows--a dust grain in a snowflake is a familiar example. These nuclei can be heterogeneous defects, like the dust grain, or homogeneous nuclei which are intrinsic to the material. Here we study homogeneous nucleation in nanoscale polymer droplets on a substrate which itself can be crystalline or amorphous. We observe a lar...

Electrically controlled cloud of bulk nanobubbles in water solutions

Using different experimental techniques we visualize a cloud of gas in water that is produced electrochemically by the alternating polarity process. Liquid enriched with gas does not contain bubbles strongly scattering visible light but its refractive index changes significantly near the electrodes. The change of the refractive index is a collective effect of bulk nanobubbles with a diameter sm...

Nucleation of magnetisation reversal, from nanoparticles to bulk materials

We review models for the nucleation of magnetisation reversal, i.e. the formation of a region of reversed magnetisation in an initially magnetically saturated system. For small particles models for collective reversal, either uniform (Stoner-Wohlfarth model) or non-uniform like curling give good agreement between theory and experiment. For microscopic objects and thin films, we consider two mod...

Photoinduced Topotactic Growth of Bismuth Nanoparticles from Bulk SrBi2Ta2O9

In situ growth of bismuth (Bi) nanoparticles on bulk SrBi2Ta2O9 (SBT) platelet is achieved by UV light illumination of SBT in aqueous glucose solutions. Interestingly, the as-produced Bi nanoparticles (NPs) are uniformly oriented with the epitaxial relationship of [001]Bi//[110]SBT, appearing as meso-single-crystal phase despite spatial separation between the NPs. Systematic investigations indi...
